  1. Other Racing
  • The main events of note for our band of travellers have been the Selden Sailjuice Winter Series, with five events held from November to February at Draycote, Datchet, Burfield, King George, and Rutland Water in conditions ranging from drifter to 40 knots! There was a mixture of one/two day events comprising both handicap and pursuit racing, using the Great Lakes handicap numbers. In total across the whole series, there were over 200 sailors entered, representing a massive 62 boat classes and 86 clubs.

Alastair Brown and Roger and Jamie Blake attended the overall prizegiving event held at the RYA Dinghy Show on 26 February; GMSC sailors were well represented in the prizes, finishing as follows:

Roger and Jamie Blake (Osprey) 1st in class, 4th Fast Symmetric, 4th Speed Six challenge (fastest speed), 3rd Family team and 2nd Master

Ian Blake (470 crew) 1st in class, 3rd Female helm, 3rd Youth

Alice Davies (420) 3rd in class

Alastair Brown (ILCA 6/Laser Radial) 2nd in class, 5th 18-30 Age group

GMSC finished an impressive 7th in the overall Club rankings; if we could encourage one or two more to attend some events next year, then perhaps we might finish even higher!
