Seamanship skills

2-day course; This builds on the learning from the Better Sailing (Level 3) or Stage 4 courses. The emphasis of the course is on increasing the self-reliance and decision making of a sailor. It covers practical areas of sailing techniques to improve the skills learnt in Level 1 - 3. You will practice manoeuvres including anchoring, lee shore landing,capsize recovery from a complete inversion, and ropework.

Entry criteria for the course:

You will have completed the Better Sailing (Level 3) as an adult or Stage 4 as a junior or your sailing must be at that standard.

Sailing with Spinnakers

2-day course: At the end of the course you will understand how to sail a dinghy with an asymmetric (or symmetric) spinnaker. It covers the practical areas like; Rigging, techniques and manoeuvres and capsize recovery as well as the theory area of apparent wind and the effect of the shape of the hull on the performance of the boat.

Entry criteria for the course:

You must have completed the Better Sailing (Level 3) as an adult or Stage 4 as a junior or your sailing must be at that standard. It is very important that you are able to sail up wind efficiently in a range of conditions.
