RYA Youth Stage 1 Sailing Course
Sun 24th May - Sun 21 June
A modular course to be run over three afternoon sessions, designed to get your child confident to sail a single handed dinghy. At the end of the 3 sessions we hope we will be able to award certificates to those who have ticked off all the required skills.
Course Outline
An introduction to the parts of the boat and the basic principles of how to get a boat sailing
- Launching and recovery
- Sailing across the wind
- Turning around
- Steering and basic parts of the boat
Subject to weather and how well the group progresses we may be able to sign of elements of Stage 2
Stage 2 objectives are:
Improved sailing skills on all points of sail. Tacking, gybing, ropework and collision avoidance

- (complete) Youth Sailing Course Day 2 : 7 June, 13:30-17:00
- Youth Sailing Course Day 3 and awards ceremeny : 21 June, 13:30-17:30
