Fishing Rules
Welcome, Fellow Angler
Fishing at Grebe Lake is permitted for Full and Fishing members using rodandline methods only. All anglers must comply with Environment Agency regulations and the Club's local rules.
The water holds a varied selection of fishRoach, Perch, Bream, Zander, Pike and moreacross a range of depths. The fishery is not overfished, and a planned improvement policy is in place to ensure its continued health and development.
Our rules are designed to protect fish welfare, water quality, and the wider environment. Common sense and best practice are expected at all times. Please respect fellow memberswe are all here to enjoy and enhance the fishery so that future generations may do likewise.
General Requirements
- These rules apply to all members fishing at Great Moor Sailing Club and are additional to the Club's general regulations.
- A valid Environment Agency Rod license must be held at all times.
- All fish must be returned to the water, except those legitimately caught on site for use as live or dead bait. Failure to comply may result in prosecution under Schedule 1, Section 2 of the Theft Act.
- No freshwater fish from other waters or retail outlets may be used as bait, alive or dead.
- Fishing is permitted only from designated swims. Fishing from the slipway or pontoons is prohibited.
- Anglers must minimize their impact on other lake users, just as other users must respect anglers. Lines must never be cast where there is any risk of fouling another waterbased activity.
Fish & Wildlife Welfare
- Anglers must act responsibly to protect fish and wildlife:
- No introductions: No plant, animal, or fish species may be introduced into the waters (whether native or not).
- Appropriate tackle: Rods, lines, bait, and landing gear must be suitable for the intended catch and compliant with Environment Agency rules.
- Keep nets: Must be at least 2m long and 1.2m in circumference, with suitable mesh. Carp and Pike must not be retained in keep nets.
- Rod care: Unattended rods must be removed from the water.
- Handling fish: Exercise extreme care when landing, unhooking, lifting, and handling fish to avoid injury.
- Carp & Pike anglers: Must carry suitable unhooking equipment and an unhooking mat.
- Wildlife protection: Shooting of wildlife is strictly prohibited. No air weapons, pistols, rifles, or similar equipment are permitted on site.

Club Responsibilities
- Members who fish are expected to attend work days where possible, supporting the Swim Improvement Program.
- No alterations to bankside vegetation, shrubs, or trees are permitted unless authorized by the Fishing Representative and approved by the Club Committee as part of the Improvement Program.
- Sharing information about fishing at Great Moor in any public domain is prohibited. This includes coaching, filming, writing, or posting content for commercial or personal social media (e.g. YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X.com).
