Fishing Rules
Fishing of Grebe Lake is allowed by Full and Fishing members, subject to the following rules and conditions:
1. Under no circumstances should any wildlife be interfered with.
2. No naming of the water.
3. Fishing members are required to attend work days
4. Bank-side vegetation may only be cut back with permission of the club.
5. Angling from the slipway area or on pontoons is not allowed.
6. All fish must be returned to the water with the exception of fish taken as live or dead bait to do so may give rise to a civil or criminal prosecution under Schedule 1, Section 2 of the Theft Act.
7. All fishing must be by rod and line.
8. All anglers must be in possession of a current Environment Agency license prior to fishing (up to two rods); a second license is required to fish with more than two rods up to the limit of four rods.
9. Anglers must abide by Environment Agency rules.
10. Unattended rods must be removed from the water.
11. Do not leave any litter, take to a bin or home and please do the same with any other you find.
12. No angler may carry any gun.
13. Any keep net must be a minimum of 2m long x 1.2m in circumference and be of suitable mesh.
14. Carp and Pike must not be retained in keep nets.
15. Carp and Pike anglers must be in possession of suitable and fit for purpose unhooking equipment and un-hooking mat.
16. Particle baits are allowed, but must be fully prepared prior to use.
17. Carp and pike anglers must use a minimum of 15lb breaking strain line.
18. Pike anglers must use suitable wire traces for bait and lure fishing.
19. Pike anglers bait fishing must have suitable bite indication in the form of either a non-tether ledger rig with electronic bite alarms and drop indicators or clearly visible surface float.
20. Lure fishing is allowed at all times.
21. Fishing members should not inhibit the passage of craft.
22. The safety of all water users is of paramount importance therefore the following must be strictly observed by and fisherman on the water:
a. No boat may cross or hinder swimmers using the lake.
b. All boats after launching on the slipway should vacate the vicinity quickly to avoid congestion.
c. After a launch the boat the trailer should be returned to the car park or berthing location.
d. Fishing craft must be tied up or beached while race sailing is taking place on the lake.
e. Fishing boats may only be used by members with a boat fishing permit. NO guests are permitted to fish from boats except juniors on the same family membership as the permit holder whilst the holder is present.
f. Petrol powered outboard motors are not allowed at all on the lake unless permitted by the committee.
g. Electric trolling engines 3HP or less are allowed on the lake.
h. A buoyancy aid must be worn by every occupant of the boat at all times.
i. Prior to use of a boat, the owner must abide with club rules regarding craft insurance.
j. Only five boat fishing permits available per year.
k. Those wishing to apply for a boat fishing permit must have held a fishing membership for 12 months prior to obtaining a boat fishing permit.
l. Those wishing to apply for a boat fishing permit may be put on a waiting list until a permit becomes available.
m. Issue of permits is at the discretion of the general committee and can be withdrawn at any time.
Fishing Members have a duty of care to ensure that both members and the general public are aware of the dangers of fishing on the Club's waters and to avoid casting his or her line if there is a risk of causing injury.
No angler may also cast his/her line if there is a possibility of its fouling any sailing boat or water based user.
