Milestones in club history

The club was formed in 1972 by a group which included the then Bicester garrison and several civilian sailors, a view on the early years can be read here by Tony Blair, one of the founder members. Below we have attempted to set out some key milestones in the club's history. If you know of more or spot any errors then let us know and we can update the list.

  • 1970 - Club formed
  • 19?? - Clubhouse first extension (the area now men's changing rooms and office)
  • 1983 - Clubhouse second extension built (the area now bar galley, lady's change and access toilet)
  • 1996 - Fleet of 8 Kestrels purchased to enhance fleet of club boats (arrived April 13th)
  • 1999 - Site purchased with the aid of Lottery grant
  • 200? - RYA training centre status in its own right
  • 2007 - Renovation project of clubhouse started
  • 2008 - Finish a significant part of the renovation and construct the decking area
  • 2010 - HS2 distractions start
  • 2013 - Renovation of portable cabin and creation of training room
  • 2016 - New main pontoon
  • 2016 - Eco toilets constructed in the camping area
  • 2017 - New second pontoon
  • 2021 - HS2 mitigation works construct boat park and second lower carpark
